Jammu-Srinagar Highway closed for traffic

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: The 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only all-weather surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was closed on Thursday for vehicular traffic due to landslide triggered by heavy rain.
“The highway was closed due to massive landslide triggered by heavy rain at Peerah in Ramban District this afternoon,” Traffic Police officials said.
They said that the traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar this morning but due to landslide, it was halted at several places on the highway.
“Though a number of passenger and other vehicles have been left stranded on the highway, right now we do not have the exact number,” they said.
The men and machines of  Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have been deployed to clear the highway and restore the vehicular traffic, they said.(PTI)
