SRINAGAR: Jammu and frontier Poonch district remained on the radar of the Pakistani army and rangers as maximum number of ceasefire violations were reported from these two districts of Jammu region during 2015.
This information was tabled in the state assembly by the Chief Minister in reply to a question of senior National Conference MLA Ali Mohd Sagar.
During the period Pakistan violated ceasefire for 181 times on International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC), claiming lives of eight (8) security personnel and 14 civilians.
“Out of 93 border firing incidents along the International Border Jammu district topped the list by recording 54 violations while Kathua recorded 17 such incidents and Samba 22 between January 15, 2015 to January 15, 2016, Mehbooba Mufti said in the written reply. As many as 62 civilians and 13 security force personnel were also injured in the firing from across the border.
In Kathua, five civilians and a security force jawan were injured, while at Samba, a civilian was killed and five others were injured. At Jammu, five civilians were killed and 30 were injured, Ms Mufti said, adding that two security force personnel also were wounded there.
