 STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: To curb the fast growing drugs menace and vehicle lifting cases in Jammu District, the newly appointed Jammu SSP Dr Sunil Gupta disclosed the constitution of two separate teams-AVTAR and ANAND to catch hold the drug peddlers including the facilitators, who are involved in supply of intoxicating drugs and vehicle lifting gang respectively. These two special police teams will work round the clock to track these cases.
Interacting with media persons at Gazetted Officers’ GO Mess in Jammu, SSP Gupta announced to book the drug peddlers and vehicles lifters under Public Safety Act (PSA). Teams under the supervision of Superintendents of Police have been constituted, which will work to unearth the racketeers involved in such crimes.
Giving data about the recoveries made recently, SSP Gupta said, “With the coordination of schools, parents and other social civil organisations, Jammu Police has decided to curb the drugs menace which is spoiling the youth.”
Similarly, a data base is being prepared for the stolen and recovered vehicles, Jammu SSP Sunil Gupta told, “the vehicle lifters have generally changed the chassis and engine numbers of stolen vehicles which creates trouble for the police to identify the original owner of the vehicles. Police is planning to have a yard to park those vehicles so that owners can identify their vehicles. Otherwise these vehicles remain parked in police stations and turn into dumps,” said SSP Gupta.
“J and K Police has decided to strengthen the police force by recruiting the best constables. This time for the first time the police is conducting written test for the candidates after physical tests using electronic medium,” said SSP Jammu. Jammu Police is conducting a written test of candidates tomorrow (Sunday).
Earlier DySP Hq Sugandha Mahajan holding the charge of SDPO West gave brief and an impressive introduction of SSP Dr Sunil Gupta.
South Jammu SP Shahzad Salaria, SP Hq Romesh Kotwal and SDPO Gandhi Nagar Arun Kumar attended the interaction meet.
