Jammu men, women emerge Kabaddi Champions

JAMMU: Hosts Jammu District clinched both men and women titles in the 20th State Kabbadi Championship held under the banner of J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association at M A Stadium fields, here on Wednesday.
In both the finals, Jammu District defeated their opponents from district Kathua. In men’s section, Jammu beat Kathua by a margin of nine points while women team outplayed the same opponent representing district Kathua by 26 points.
Third place in men’s section went to district Baramulla while Srinagar women secured the bronze winning the hardliner.
The best player of the tournament trophy went to Jhangir Mir of Baramulla while Mitali Manhas of Jammu District was selected for the same title in women section.


In the finals and valedictory function, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta was Chief Guest, who gave away the title trophies as also other individual prizes. Member J&K State Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra was Guest of Honour.
Speaking to the gathering, Speaker announced flood lights at the Kabaddi fields of MA Stadium, here. Others present were Abdul Qayoom, Kuldeep Gupta, Surinder Mohan Gupta, B.S Tirthi, Sangram Singh, Dinesh Gupta and Anil Modi.
Other Results: Semifinals: MEN: Jammu beat Barmulla by one point; Kathua defeated Srinagar by 34 points. WOMEN: Jammu blanked Srinagar by 37 points; Kathua trounced Baramulla by 30 points.
Today’s knockout matches were officiated by the technical panel including Anil Sharma, Ajay Gupta, Ankush Gupta, Dharmjeet Singh, Manik Sharma, Ameen, Ajeet singh, Shashi Sharma, Yusuf, Sikander, Anuradha, Rakesh Sharma, Mohan Lal, Sanjay Sharma and Rakesh Sharma.
