JAMMU: The Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma on Thursday expressed concern over the sufferings of widows, old age and physically challenged persons due to the stoppage of their pensions for the last some months.
In a press conference the Mayor has appealed to all the Councillors of JMC to visit widows, old age and physically challenged persons in their Wards and collect data required in the pension form from them so that their pension cases may be forwarded to the Social Welfare Department for verification.
He said that the pensions were stopped as much of the beneficiaries had no Priority House Hold (PHH) Ration Cards. He informed that first PHH Ration Card will be made and after that pension shall be started and those who had non-PHH Ration Cards faced problems in getting pensions.
“Those who possess PHH or BPL Ration Cards may directly upload their data and documents on the website of Social Welfare Department and their pension will be resumed soon,” Mayor Sharma told reporters.
He asked the affected people not to be misled by certain wrong elements and urged upon all the Councillors to become a ray of hope for the widows, old age and physically challenged persons who are in need of pension and help them.
He thanked LG Manoj Sinha for directions of simplification of pension procedure to help poor for fast redressals.
He also thanked ten members volunteers team of Ward 16 that finished data collection of pension holders in a single day and compiled same by daily working in night from 8 PM to 1AM for three days.
