Jammu & Kashmir govt restarts Jhelum river cruise

Srinagar:-Jammu and Kashmir government today restarted Jhelum River cruise here to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Srinagar city and provide additional tourist products to the visitors.

Joint Director Tourism, Kashmir, Tasaduq Hussain relaunched the service from Peerzoo Island saying the river cruise will take visitors to historical places of the city like Lalla Ded memorial, Shergari, Khanqah Moula and Hazrat Bulbul Shah Rehmat-a-Ullah.

“The historical importance of these heritage sites will be provided to the tourists by guides deputed by the tourism department at these places,” he said, adding, during the ride ‘Zafrani Kashmiri Kahwa’ (traditional green tea) would also be served to the visitors.

The cruise would operate daily from Peerzoo Island from 10 am to 5 pm and Rs 300 would be charged per head, he said.

The river cruise was started in May 2012 but had to be suspended due to poor response from the people including tourists.
