KUPWARA: Jammu District won the 35th JKUT Senior Volleyball Championship by defeating J&K Police by 3-1 set in the final match played at Maidan Chogul Handwara in Kupwara today.
The tournament was organized by Kupwara District Volleyball Association under the aegis of Volleyball association of J&K in collaboration with J&K Sports Council.
The final match was played between Jammu District and J&K police. Later won the match by 3-1 sets with set score 13-25,25-22,29-27,27-25. Earlier in the semifinal match, Jammu defeated Budgam by 3-1(25-15,24-26,25-20,25-17 and J&K Police beat Anantnag by 3-1 (20-25,25-23,25-23,25-9).
Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara district, Ayushi Sudan was the chief guest on the closing ceremony of 3 day Volleyball championship. Jugal Manhas SSP Kupwara was the guest of honour, who gave away trophies, individuals prizes, certificates to the winner and runner up teams.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest congratulated all the teams for their excellent perfroamnce during the championship. He lauded the efforts of Volleyball association of J&K and J&K Sports Council in scaling new heights in the sports arena especially in volleyball by clinching 3rd position in the 48th Junior National Volleyball championship which was held at Jammu in the last year and got bronze medal.
The chief guest also appreciated the hard work of office bearers of association, Volleyball coaches, referees and players for up-gradation of sports in JKUT.
Welcoming the dignitaries Kuldip Magotra CEO of VAJK presented brief note of the achievements of the association from time to time. He further disclosed that association has so far produced 5 international Volleyball players.
In total 52 matches were played in the championship from September 28 to 30 under the panel of dedicated volleyball referees wherein as many as 400 players and officials participated with zeal and gist.
On the occasion, Jagir Singh Randhawa international volleyball coach was also honoured by the administration of Kupwara district. Shabir Khan and other dignitaries were also present during the occasion.
Those present on the occasion included Kuldip Magotra CEO, Abdul Ahad Shah vice president, Mohd Tariq joint secretary, Akbar Ali Office secretary of Volleyball association of J&K. Muneer Alam Srinagar district Secretary, Nilofar Habib Kugam district secretary, Javid Uri Baramulla district secretary.
The technical panel was comprised of Sr. Amarjit singh, Neeraj Sharma, DK Raina, Intizar Ali, Mohd. Shabir, Sidharth Hussain, Wasim Akram, Modh Ikhlaq, Mohd. Ayaz, Amit Sharma, Manik Nagotra, Mulkhraj, Mohd Iliyas.
