JAMMU:When it comes to paying their power bills, power consumers across Kashmir Valley lag behind Jammu but when it comes to consuming power units they stay ahead of Jammu region.
Minister for Power on Thursday informed the State Assembly that in the last three years revenue realization from Jammu province stood at Rs 2,254 crore while Kashmir region accounted for Rs 1,529 crore, Rs 725 crore less than the Jammu region.
The revenue collection is categorised into three segments as domestic, industrial and Government.
In Jammu region the power development department collected revenue of Rs 571.95 crore starting from 2014 till November ending 2016. Rs 208.62 crore were collected in 2014-15, Rs 226.73 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 136.60 crore in 2016-17 till November ending. In the industrial sector PDD collected a total revenue of Rs 872.35 crore. while Rs 810 crores were collected from Government sector which included state/central/.agriculture/irrigation/LT/HT.
When it comes to Kashmir Valley, the total domestic revenue collected stood at Rs 757 .12 crore, Rs 241.57 crore from Industrial and Rs 531 crore from Government sector during the same period.
According to the written reply tabled in the Legislative Assembly, revenue collected from Kashmir region in 2014-15 stood at Rs 273.78 crore, Rs 359.97 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 123.37 crore in 2016-17 till November ending. The Industrial sector failed badly in comparison to Jammu in Kashmir Valley as only Rs 241.57 crore were collected between 2014-2016 till November ending.
When it comes to pending arrears from private consumers Kashmir stayed ahead of Jammu region as well. Rs 726.32 crore of arrears were pending in 2014-15, Rs 777.52 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 947.40 crore in 2016-17. Similarly, arrears from public consumers stood at Rs 249.49 crore in 2014-15, Rs 399.37 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 524. 35 crore in 2016.17.
in Jammu Province Rs 220.17 crore of arrears were pending in 2014-15, Rs 226.5 crore in 2015-16, Rs 336.94 crore in 2016-17 from private consumers while Rs 463.79 crore in 2014-15, Rs 629.24 crore in 2015-16, and Rs 779.11 crore in 2016-17 till November ending were pending from public consumers.
