JAMMU: Sagar Sahi of Jammu and Kashmir won bronze medal in the just concluded Junior Asian Fencing Championship held at Daman in Saudi Arabia. On his return, Sagar was felicitated by the J and K State Sports Council in a function held at MA Stadium, here on Friday.
Since, Sagar is son of a staff member of the State Sports Council, groundman, Dev Bahadur, the function in his honour was organised by the staff and officials of the autonomous sports body.
After learning his basics from the State Sports Council coaches at MA Stadium, Sagar joined the Army Sports Institute Pune recently. It was from Army Institute that Fencing Federation of India selected Sagar in the Indian team heading for the Asian Championship. Today’s felicitation function was attended by Secretary, State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmed Shah, who appreciated Dev Bahadur for making his son a sportsman of international repute.
Among others present were Joint Secretary, State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, members Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra and Rashid Ahmed, Sports Officer, Rajan Sharma, Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal (fencing coaches) and Manager Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, Satish Gupta.
