JAMMU: Jammu District clinched both men and women titles in the two-day 3rd Senior State Tug of War Championship which was organised by J&K Tug of War Association at Unique Public Higher Secondary School Gadi Garh, near here today.
In the men’s final, Jammu defeated Unique Sports Club, Jammu 2-1. Earlier, in the semifinals, Jammu district beat Samba 2-1 while Unique Sports Club outplayed District Pulwama 2-1.
Similarly, in women’s category, Jammu trounced district Samba 2-0. In the semifinals, Samba beat Unique Sports Club 2-1 and Jammu downed district Pulwama 2-0.
Today’s finals and semifinals were officiated by the technical penal comprising Ravinder Singh (Chief Refree), Gaurav Kumar Dubey (Refree), Robin Singh and Sourbh Dubey (both umpires).
In the finals and prize distribution, Member Legislative Council (MLC), Charanjit Singh Khalsa was Chief Guest, who along with Working President of the Association, Jodh Singh Ishar presented the winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
Speaking to the gathering, Charanjit Singh Khalsa appealed All the participants to take part in sports in a big way and stay away from drugs and refrain from indulging in anti-social activities so as to become a healthy and responsible citizen. Among other distinguished gathering present were Jasbir Singh, (Joint Secretary), Amarjit Singh (retired SSP, Dr. Aliyas, Ravinder Singh (international player) and Nirlep Kaur, Principal Unique Public HSS Gadi Garh.
The selected players are going to participate in the 30th Senior Men and women National Championship & 15th Senior Federation Cup being held from 13th-18th January 2018 at Sports Complex Shri Tej Bahadur Khalsa College, Rupnagar Anandpur Sahib Punjab.
Meanwhile, as per the organisers, the selected players out of this competition shall report for the coaching camp, for upcoming nationals, at UPHSS, Gadigarh from tomorrow.
