JAMMU: Resident Joint Action Committee Channi Himmat expressed serious concern in respect of permission granted by the civil wing of Housing Board to the Reliance GIO for digging of roads, by-lanes in the rainy season resulting huge damage to the roads and drains and great inconvenience to the residents.
General Secretary of the Committee, P.L Kohli said that the lanes and drains in the Channi Himmat area are in shambles due to un-planned digging by the private telecom operators for laying of Optical Fiber Cable.
The damaged parts of the roads and drains are not yet repaired by the department resulting in damage to the property of the residents and in case of any major accident the human life is at stake for which the Reliance Company and the Housing Board shall be responsible, Kohli said.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Civil Wing of Housing Board which confirmed that the permission was granted to the private telecom operators on payment of Rs.45 lakh for the digging of berm on the side of the road whereas the major portion of the roads and drains has been damaged by the company and the Housing Board officials keep their eyes closed for the reasons best known to the them.
The members of the committee alleged that the higher officials of Housing Board when contacted for immediate repair of the damaged roads and drains their request was turned down with the plea that ‘no funds available for next six months for this job’.
The JAC Channi Himmat requested the Dy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh and MLA Gandhi Nagar to intervene into the matter and issue immediate orders to the Housing Board for restoration of damaged roads and drains on war footing basis and also constitute a high level committee to examine facts about the grant of permission for the digging of roads and drains on side berms at very nominal rates.
The meeting was also attended by Lalit Mahajan, President BBIA and other members of the committee.
