NEW DELHI: After Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the party’s campaign for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections.
Quoting sources a national television channel reported that PM Modi will be the party’s star campaigner in the State and will join the campaign after returning from a visit to Australia, Fiji and Myanmar later this month.
The first phase of five-phase polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on 25th November, with the results being declared on 23th December.
As per BJP sources, Modi will address six to seven rallies in the State which witnessed unprecedented floods and destruction recently.
The PM will address at least one rally each before each phase.
The party will campaign in J and K with the slogan: “Chalo chalein Modi ji ke saath. Chalein BJP ke saath. Chalo badlein Jammu Kashmir ke haalat (Let’s walk with Modi, with BJP; and improve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir).”
BJP leaders have already said that they are targeting at least 44 seats in the 87-member Assembly, hoping the younger generation will fully support PM Modi. Also, the party will contest all 87 seats in the upcoming polls.
Modi has already tried to connect with the State’s population, paying three visits to the State after taking over as Prime Minister. He even spent Diwali with the people of flood-hit Srinagar.
While calling for a J and K liberated from both the Abdullah and Mufti families, the main poll plank for the BJP will be development.
The party, meanwhile, will not project any CM candidate in the State.
Among other leaders who will campaign in the State include Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar may also join the poll campaign in J and K as he has worked a lot on the Jammu region.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri separatist leaders seem to be in a dilemma. They believe giving a boycott call will make the people angry and if voting is allowed, they might lose the grip on the State forever.
