JAMMU: With the arrest of an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and his associate, Poonch Police on Sunday busted a racket involved in international drugs trafficking and Narco-terrorism nexus running under the patronage of Pakistan and ISI.
The police has recovered a consignment of over 56 kg Heroin valuing over Rs 56 crore in the international market, which was to be delivered to point-man in Jammu.
On a specific information, a police team intercepted a Tata mobile vehicle (JK12-1652) and during frisking, a huge consignment of contraband heroin was recovered. The main accused Mohd Rafiq, son of Sher Mohd of Mandi, an SPO turned OGW of LeT and his associate Shakeel Ahmed, driver by profession, both residents of village Danadoian Tehsil Mandi, District Poonch were arrested.
During frisking, 54 packets of narcotic drug (each weighing 1,040 gms of high quality heroin) were recovered from their possession, Poonch SSP J.S Johar.
FIR 177 /2014 under sections 8/21/23 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been set in motion.
Rafi was previously involved in various militancy related cases. FIR 14/12 dated 2nd Feb 2012 registered at Police Station Poonch under section 13,17,18,39,40 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, was Challaned against Mohd Rafi on 1st June 2012. Another FIR 73/12 dated 16th May 2012 registered under section 13,18,19,20,39 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act was also Challaned against him on 02nd November 2012. Mohd Rafi remained as an OGW of LeT and was actively involved in various anti national activities, said SSP Poonch.
Mohd Rafi was also engaged as SPO and was deployed at Chakan da Bagh. Recovery of a pistol from his possession had forced the administration to dismiss him from police service.
