Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has sent SOS to Pope Fransis in Vatican, the Dalai lama, Imam Kaba, Shankrachrya and ambassadors of various countries in New Delhi, United Nations, European Union and Organisation of Islamic Countries regarding the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Mirwaiz wrote that a “war is being waged against us by the ‘democratic’ Indian state, in total violation of all democratic norms”. The security machinery of India has embarked upon the strategy of ruthlessly crushing us and our resistance through its unprecedented brutality, Mirwaiz wrote. Why should he write to the organisations. The letter gives an impression that there is ‘genocide’ being carried out by the forces. 2008 Amarnath land row which went for over two months to the recent ongoing strike in Kashmir Valley called by Hurriyat, which has crossed the 42-day mark, have not achieved any positive outcome except hardship for the common man who is caught in the vortex of the turmoil with uncertainty and militancy looming large. With lack of political vision and acumen by the political masters, the situation has become more critical. Even Jammu called for a Bandh on Saturday which was deferred. The over 45-day unrest which started on the call of the separatists was later on taken over by youth on the pretext of unemployment and resorting to ‘stone throwing’ and today the situation appears to be not ending. And when the Union Home Minister is in Valley terrorists threw grenade over security men injuring nine of them to get publicity. Has any separatist leader ever spoke about such acts or condemned these. We know that is against their agenda and we also know the organisations to whom Mirwaiz has written would be hardly reacting. The world economics does not work on such emotions. How does Mirwaiz define the ongoing violence and the uncalled for strike? Is it democratic way of protest and for what? For killing a terrorist who had killed many Indian soldiers?
