KATRA: Visiting wrestler from Iran, Amin Mirzazadeh defeated the fighting Commonwealth Games gold winner in 125 kg category, Sumit Malik of Delhi on points to lift the 18th edition of the Mission Dosti International Kanta Kushti which was organised by Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association at SMVDSB Sports Stadium, here on Sunday.
A 2023 gold winner in the World Championship in Sebia, Mirza got Rs 1.75 lakh of the Rs 3 lakh main bout while top Indian wrestler, Sumit presented Rs 1.25 lakh by the Chief Guest, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Shiv Kumar Sharma in the presence of distinguished guests.
For the second main bout, Hedo of Georgia defeated top J&K wrestler, Benia Min, who retired hurt on getting a cut injury on his forehead for the second main bout worth Rs 1.25 lakh.
In third important main bout, Sandeep Maan of Khanna in Punjab defeated Ganni of Malerkotla to get Rs 50,000 cash prize. Ganni received Rs 40,000.
Surjeet Singh of district Reasi was adjudged best wrestler of the Dangal for his entertaining fight to be awarded Rs 3100, a Gurj, Patta and trophy.
“The entire team of the organising committee deserve appreciation for making the 18th edition of popular Dangal a grand success. Likewise previous year, it was a flawless event in terms of interesting close fights, the crowd support, accurate technical supervision,” said Chairman of the Organising Committee, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
He further informed that on witnessing the event the team of senior officers of the NHPC has decided to increase their contribution by the next edition of the Dangal.
“The NHPC, one of our partners, have decided to increase the contribution of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh by the next time for the Mission Dosti Dangal.”
This Dangal was supported by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, NHPC, J&K Tourism, J&K Bank, Kreeda Bharati, Life Insurance Corporation of India, J&K Police, Mahamai Seva Nyas Yatri Niwas Katra, PWD, Municipal Committee Katra and locals of Katra.
In total, 25 bouts decided in the day-long dangal, including three international bouts and an equal number contests in women section.
Among the distinguished guests were former Ministers, Ajay Nanda and Pawan Gupta; General Manager, Rita Kumari and DGM, Noori Deori of NHPC; veteran wrestler and retired SP J&K Police, Prithvi Raj Sharma and Nirmala Devi (DDC).
The technical panel comprised Sohan Lal (chairman), Naresh Sharma (Pappu Lakri), Karan Singh, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Raj Singh, Krishan Singh, Sanjeev Sharma and Digivijay Singh.
