INTUC protests against municipality, blocks road

UDHAMPUR: A protest was organised by Sr. Congress leader and INTUC State Secy. Sumeet Magotra in Udhampur against Municipality Committee Udhampur (MCU) and district administration for dumping of garbage and dead animals in water source in Tawi River.
A large number of youth led by Sr. Congress leader Sumeet Magotra blocked National Highway, held a massive protest near Jakheni Chowk Udhampur and blocked the road to disrupt vehicular movement for several hours.
Protesting youth did not allowed the dumper to throw garbage in Tawi and forced it to return back.
While addressing protestors, Magotra told that for the last eight years MCU is using Tawi River as a dumping station due to which Tawi is getting polluted. He said that people have no option but to drink polluted water which is the main reason for some deadly diseases like cancer etc.
Receiving the information CEO, MCU Santosh Kotwal and Tehsildar rushed to the spot and assured handing over completion report of the sewerage treatment plant. Only after proper assurance the nation highway was thrown open for vehicular movement.
