LEH: The International Nursing Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the premises of Sonam Norboo Memorial (SNM) Hospital here on Tuesday. The celebration was organised by the Ladakh Nurse Association (LNA).
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Saugat Biswas was the Chief Guest while veteran Gynaecologist Tsering Lhadol (Padmashree) was the Guest of Honour.
Staff Nurse Stanzin Putit and Tutor Kunzes Angmo briefed about the life of Florence Nightingale and her dedication of work as a nurse.
Deputy Commissioner Saugat Biswas congratulating the nurses said that it is a great day for the nursing community. Recalling Florence Nightingale’s contribution, he advised the nursing community to follow the path shown by Florence with utmost dedication. He advised nurses to work in accordance with current year’s theme ‘Care Effective, Cost Effective’.
Expressing contentment on celebrating this day, Medical Superintendent Dr. Yangchan Dolma said that this for the first time that nursing community is celebrating International Nursing Day with such enthusiasm. She said that it is the right time to highlight the contribution of nurses towards the society and the hardships which they face while performing their professional duties.
Tsering Lhadol advised the nurses to work with dedication, devotion and commitment and said that they must take a cue from the life of Florence Nightingale while dispensing their services.
Sharing their views on the International Nursing Day, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Punchok Wangchok and Executive Councillor for Health LAHDC, Dr. Sonam Wangchok assured that demands projected in the memorandum will be considered on priority.
Students of Ancillary Midwife Training (AMT) School presented scintillating Ladakhi and Bollywood dance performances.
