International Disability Day: Team Jammu demands separate corporation for physically-challenged

AKHNOOR: On the eve of International Disability Day, Jammu and Kashmir Disabled Welfare Association held one-day convention here on Sunday.
The programme was organised under the chairmanship of Sushil Sharma, Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Disabled Welfare Association. Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman Team Jammu was the Chief Guest during the occasion where as Advocate Vilakshan Singh, Chairman Duggar Kranti Sena and Advocate Pushvinder Singh, President were the Guests of Honour.
Hundreds of specially-abled people from all over Akhnoor and nearby areas attended the convention.
Sushil Sharma, Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Disabled Welfare Association welcomed the guests. He apprised the gathering about the achievements of association.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman Team Jammu said that it is moral duty of every citizen to stand shoulder to shoulder with the specially-abled, widows and aged as they need special attention of the society. He criticised the State Government of neglecting the basic demands of the specially-abled people. He said that government had kept this section deprived from their basic rights. He said that no one represents the demand of the disabled people in Assembly and Parliament hence they need their political representation and they should be given the political reservation.
While demanding a separate corporation for the physically challenged persons, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that Rs 1,000 pension is not sufficient for the specially-abled, widows and aged to meet their daily needs hence government should seriously consider their demand of enhancement of monthly pension. He said that Team Jammu will project the demands and rights of this class of people and will try every possible step for their welfare.
Vilakshan Singh Chairman DKS and Pushpinder Singh, President DKS in their respective addresses asked State Government to implement Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 which has been passed by the Central Government without diluting it.
Sham Lal, President J&K Disabled Welfare Association, appealed to all the participants to raise their issues on various platforms and requested them to keep supporting the neglected class of the society.
Jammu and Kashmir Disabled Welfare Association also distributed two tri-cycles, two wheel chairs, three crutches and one hearing aid machine to the needful.
The other who spoke during the occasion were Tanveer Hussain President All J&K PHE ITI Trained and CP Workers Association, Atul Sudan Vice President JJSF, Satpal Saraf social activist, Tarsem Lal Vice President J and K Disabled Welfare Association, Vakil Chand General Secretary J&K Disabled Welfare Association, Pritam Sharma President JK Kranti Dal, Rajinder Ranja, Naresh Sharma President AYC, Sham Singh Langeh, Deepak Gupta, Tahir, Rajni Sharma, Dayaram, Gourav Bhatia, Pardeep Sharma, Tahir, Rajinder Bhagat and Sunil Chauhan.
