Inter-state police officers join hands to curb crime

JAMMU: To discuss the strategy for cracking down the interstate criminals, a meeting under the chairmanship of Danesh Rana, IGP Jammu Zone was held here at Police Officers Mess on Tuesday.
The meeting was also attended by the Police officers of neighbouring States of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. A.K Mittal, DIG Border Range, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Toor, SSP Gurdaspur and Rakesh Kouhsal, SSP Pathankot represented Punjab Police whereas Kulwant Singh, ASP Chamba represented Himachal Pradesh. Besides, Ashqoor Ahmed Wani, DIG Jammu, Joginder Singh, SSP Samba, Rajiv Pandey, I/C SSP Jammu, Nasir Ahmed, ASP Kathua, and Randheer Singh, SP Headquarters Jammu were also present.
Terming the prevailing trans-border criminal activities including human trafficking, vehicle theft, burglary and circulation of fake currency as a serious problem and a challenge for Police, the IGP Jammu asked to adopt a Multi Prolonged Strategy to ensure sustained crackdown against the interstate criminals. He sought support and cooperation of his counterpart police officers in this regard. It was unanimously decided to lay coordinated joint check posts, joint raids and searches in affected areas besides initiating various other measures to strengthen vigil on the border.
It was unanimously agreed in the meeting to share the information of crime, criminals and suspects immediately to the counterparts so that the criminal is not able to enter the neighbouring State for taking shelter after commission of the offence. It was decided to ensure better flow of criminal intelligence and information as well as identifying such criminals.
It was also decided to have dedicated and concerted efforts for synergizing the resources to fulfill the agenda discussed during the meeting. “Multi prolonged strategy for joint efforts and to assign specific targets on joint information and visible results on ground will be reviewed regularly”, the meeting resolved. It was also exhorted that such meetings need to be regularly conducted at all hierarchical level of the officers of these states, and performance of these joint efforts be reviewed regularly and calling out strategies aligned with the need of the time.
A special emphasis was laid on drug trade and multi pronged strategy was devised to discourage the smuggling of narcotics from and into the State. It was decided to wage a war against drugs with co-ordinated efforts and intelligence sharing.
