Anurag of RSJN Kathua wins chess title

KATHUA: Anurag of RSJN Kathua won under-19 chess title by defeating Tikka Singh of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kathua in the inter school district level tournaments being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), here on Thursday.
The tournaments are being organised under the supervision of District Sports Officer Kathua Subash Chander Bhardwaj. Earlier, in chess event played at DAV Lachhipur, Tikka Singh outplayed Thakur Vikrant of BPS Billawar in first semifinal and Anurag trounced Jatin of Infant Jesus HSS Hiranagar in second semifinal.
In under-19 boys Wushu, Akhil Salaria of GHSS Barwal, Vishal Sharma of GHSS Chakra, Ankush Singh of Manu Shiksha Kendra Rajbhag, Mohd. Aslam of GHSS Hiranagar, Bagh Hussain of GHSS Marheen, Mohd. Billa of GHSS Marheen, Sanjay Sharma of GHSS Chakra and Sarabjeet Singh of DAV Kathua got gold medals in below 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 65, 70 and 75 Kg categories respectively while in above 75 Kg Puneet Sharma of DAV stood first.
In girls section, Prity Jasrotia of GHSS Barwal, Priyanka Devi of GHSS Kirian and Ritika Devi of GHSS Kirian stand first in below 40, 44 and 48 Kg weight categories respectively. In badminton, Anupriya of Spring Dales Kathua trounced Manju Devi of GHSS Marheen by 2-0 sets in singles while in doubles Isha and Meenu of Manu Shiksha Kendra Rajbagh won the title by defeating Mansi and Palvi of Spring Dales Kathua by 2-0 sets. Earlier in doubles semifinals, Manu Shiksha Kendra Rajbhag outplayed GHSS Hiranagar by 2-0 and Spring Dales Kathua trounced GHSS Kathua.
Meanwhile, rugby and swimming trials for u-19 boys were conducted at Sports Stadium Kathua and Jandi Pond respectively. Akash Sharma, Devinder Kumar, Abhishek Sharma of GHSS Hiranagar, Kanav Sharma of GHSS Forelane, Aman Sharma of GHSS Kootah, Sumit Singh of HSS Kathua, Karandeep Singh of DS Heritage Barwal were selected for future competitions in swimming and Murad Ali, Ashiq Ali, Gourav Sharma, Lakhvant Singh and Puneet Raina of GHSS Kathua were selected for rugby.
Today’s events were officiated by Dharminder Singh Shally, Mohan Lal, Kuldeep Singh, Sanjay Sharma, Prem Lal, Sukh Ram, Kewal Krishan and Sanjay Gupta. Kailash Chander, Surinder Kour, Pawan Kumar (ZPEOs), Rama Kumari, Darshan Kumar, Suresh Kumari, Omkar Nath, Sanjeev Sunny, Manjeet Kour and Karanjeet were also present on the occasion.
