KATHUA: Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports Kathua, the inter-school district level tournaments in different disciplines for u-19 boys and girls entered second consecutive day on Wednesday.
Matches of Basketball at St. Xavier Convent School Hatli, Roll ball and Roller Skating at DPS Rajbagh, Taekwondo and Wrestling at Sports Stadium Kathua were held under the overall supervision of District Sports Officer Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj.
A total of 113 players of 12 schools of district participated in today’s events.
The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Vikram Singh Jamwal, Assistant District Medical Officer Kathua at Sports Stadium Kathua in the presence of DYSSO.
Parveen Akhtar of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Kathera trounced Anu Choudhary of GHSS Hiranagar in rope skipping in 30 seconds.
At St. Xavier School, the host school defeated Infant Jesus HSS Hiranagar by 21 points in basketball. Vijay, Sachin, Ankit, Sumit and Manav of St. Xavier did the best during the game.
Vijitendrya, Rithik and Pranav of Little Angel School Kathua, Yogesh of RSJN Kathua and Antriksh of St. Xavier Convent School presented their outstanding caliber during the competitions of Roll Ball and Roller Skating.
In taekwondo under-19 boys, Chetan of KV Hiranagar, Ashutosh of KV Hiranagar, Abhishek of Little Angel School Kathua, Paruldev Singh of DAV Kathua, Achal Sumbria of Little Angel School Kathua, Pankaj Kumar of GHSS Chandwan, Shami Badyal of Public Model HSS Hiranagar and Pushapkant of CMP Dyalachack won gold medals in below 46, 50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70 and above 71 Kg weight categories respectively. In girls, Priya Devi of HSS Hiranagar won gold medal in below 54 Kg category.
Wrestling boys: Manjeet Kumar of GHSS Hiranagar, Murad Ali of GHSS Kathua, Talib Hussain of GHSS Kirian, Mohd. Ali of GHSS Kathera, Manzoor Hussain of GHSS Kathera, Mohd Billa of GHSS Marheen, Raju Sharma of GHSS Hiranagar, Sourav Sharma of GHSS Hiranagar, Mohit Kumar of St. Xavier Convent School Kathua won gold medals in below 42, 46, 50, 55, 60, 66, 74, 84 and 96 kg weight categories respectively.
Today’s events were officiated by Kuldeep Singh, Rani Andotra, Virender Singh, Punjab Singh, Arun Dutta, Vinay Salaria, Parveen Singh, Pankaj Spolia and Rakesh Manhas. Mohan Lal Dub, Dharminder Singh, Hari Gopal, Darshan Kumar, Omkar Nath and Sanjeev Sunny were also present on the occasion.
