JAMMU: Siraj of Mechnical Department defeated Manjeet Singh of Department of Computers in the final to claim the inter-department (Second semester) Chess title of the Government Polytechnic College, here.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Manjeet defeated Sourav of T&T Department while Siraj outplayed Zeeshan of Civil Department.
Quarterfinals: Zeeshan beat Dishvijay Singh of Civil Department; Siraj blanked Azhar of Mechnical Department; Manjeet defeated Nishal Zutshi of Automobile Department; Sourav of T&T trounced Mehvish of Computer Department.
The final was witnessed besides others by Principal of the College, Ritu Jamwal, who appreciated the competitive spirit of the participants and assured more such sports activities in the institution.
Prominent among
others present were Vinay (Computer Department), Rajesh Gupta (HoD Automobiles Department), Sukdeep Singh (Civil Engineering Department), Rajesh Khajuria (T&P), Khalid Sheikh (Mechnical Department) and Toshi Shan. The competition was held under the overall supervision of Physical Education Master (PEM), Rakesh Kakkar.
