UDHAMPUR: Inter college symposium on the topic “Preservation of Ozone- Layer” was organised by the Science Club of Govt. College for Women, Udhampur here on Wednesday.
As many as 16 students of different colleges participated in the symposium. The symposium was coordinated by District Coordinator Science and Technology Council, Udhampur, Sunita Razdan.
Principal of the College, Dr. Youdhvir Singh who was Chief Guest on the occasion stressed on the number of practical measures which can be taken at individual level to contribute to the protection of ozone layer.
Convener of the symposium, Dr. Bhavnaish Chand said that manmade chlorofluoro carbons and bromofluoro carbons pose major threat to the ozone layer.
First and second prizes were bagged by Sunanda Bakshi and Archana Khajuria respectively from GCW Udhampur, while third prize was clinched by Shabeena Akhter from GDC Boys Udhampur.
Meanwhile, consolation prizes were also awarded to Navpreet Kour from GCW, Udhampur and Meenakshi Devi as well as Palvi Gupta from GDC Ramnagar.
HoD Physics GDC Boys, Udhampur ,Dr. Sanjay Verma, HoD Chemistry Dr. Arun Kumar Sharma and HoD Zoology , Prof. Brinder Kumar from the host college acted as jury members.
Diksha Gupta and Preeti Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme, while HoD Botany, Prof. Ashni Devi delivered vote of thanks.
