JAMMU: Government Degree College (GDC) Mendhar clinched thriller while Government MAM College registered a 15 runs win to sail into the next round of the ongoing inter-college Cricket Tournament, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), here today.
In first match of the day, GDC Mendhar defeated GDC Kathua by one run. Earlier, batting first, GDC Mendhar made 129 runs losing all their wickets in 18.5 overs. Sharaz played fine innings of 31 runs coming off just 13 deliveries studded with six fours and one six. Ajaz (24) and Wasim (23 off eight balls, 5×4) were other main scorers. For GDC Kathua, Satnam and Kapil shared two wickets each.
In reply, GDC Kathua fell short of one run to match the opponent total when whole side was bowled out for 128 runs in 19.4 overs. Rohit (19), Sanam (15) and Kaushal (15) remained top scorers. Riyasat, Raja, Sohail and Sharaj shared two wickets each for GDC Mendhar.
Meanwhile, in other scheduled match, MAM College made it a 15 runs win against GDC Poonch. Batting first, MAM set a target of 115 runs losing all their wickets in 19.1 overs. Sagar Bhat (34), Rabnaulaz (18) and Kamran (14) were main contributors to the total. For GDC Poonch, Rameez emerged as most successful bowler with three wickets, followed by Shazad, Gurjot and Amandeep two each. Later, GDC Poonch could not chase the total and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 99 runs. Sohail (26), Saqlain (18) and Babur (23) were top scorers. For MAM College, Athar claimed three wickets while Sagar and Aftab took one each.
FIXTURE: GDC R S Pura shall meet GDC Khour while GDC Doda shall take on IDS Sehora.
