Inter-college competitions of JU GMC Jammu, SPMR enter quarters of cricket

JAMMU: Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Government SPMR College of Commerce on Friday qualified for the quarterfinals winning their respective matches in the ongoing inter-college Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on JU campus ground, here.
In the first match of the day, Commerce College outplayed GGM Science College by eight wickets. Earlier, batting first, after Commerce College won the toss and opted to field, GGM was bowled out for 99 runs with Sant (39), Govind (13) and Rishav (12) being top scorers. For Commerce College, Aditya and Shubham took two wickets each while Sunny and Mohit shared apiece each.
Later, Commerce College attained the goal of 100 runs rather easily in 14.4 overs losing only two wickets. Surya and Shubham Pundir made it an easy sailing for the side making 36 and 23 runs respectively. Sunil and Nikhil shared the wickets lost by Commerce College.
In other scheduled match, played today, GMC Jammu had narrow escape against GDC Poonch when they beat latter by two runs in super over. In super over, GMC made four runs and in reply, Poonch could make just two runs to lose the game.
Earlier, the game ended in a tie with both sides placed equal on the score card. Batting first, GDC Poonch made 109 runs for nine wickets in allotted 16 overs. Zahid Ali (44 off 27 balls, 4×4, 1×6) and Mohd Saqlain (27, 4×4) were main scorers. Abu Talah, Danish Bhat and Nasir took two wickets each while Rahil bagged one for GMC Jammu.
In reply, GMC also finished their 16 overs quota at 109 runs losing nine wickets which led to applying of super over rule by the organisers. Surya (35 off 27 vballs, 4×4, 1×6) and Shabaz (17 off 12 balls, 3×4) were main contributors to the total. Zahid Ali took most of the three wickets, followed by Jhanjeb and G Singh bagged two each.
Today’s matches were officiated by Saleem-Ur-Rehman, Vijay Dogra, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Suresh Singh, Jagtar Singh and Rahul Sharma while Manu Khajuria was Scorer.
