JAMMU: A historic and inspiring gathering took place at Gurudwara Sri Chathi Patshahi Tahli Sahib, Talab Tillo, where various Sikh women intellectuals from Jammu and Kashmir assembled to felicitate Bibi Harpreet Kaur on her appointment as the Mukh Sewadaar of the Gurudwara.
This marks the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that a woman has become the president of any Gurudwara committee, creating a proud moment for the Sikh community.
During the event, prominent Sikh woman leader Bibi Sandeep Kaur of Sikh Naujawan Sabha Kashmir welcomed the decision of DGPC Jammu and the Sadh Sangat.
She strongly demanded reservation and adequate representation for women in Gurudwara management and religious affairs. Speaking with conviction, she stated that today’s woman has already proven that she is “not a step less than a man,” highlighting the need for gender inclusivity within Sikh institutions.
Balbir Kaur, a dynamic former Sarpanch of Treva village, also felicitated Bibi Harpreet Kaur. She expressed that a woman leading a Gurudwara committee is a remarkable and progressive step, one that will inspire countless others within the community.
She added that Bibi Harpreet Kaur’s appointment is not merely an achievement but a historical milestone for Sikh women.
Several Istri Satsang Sabhas, social committees, and activists, including Quldeep Kaur, were present to extend their heartfelt congratulations, celebrating this symbolic moment of empowerment and change.
