Dear Editor,
I would say that of all the professions, the maximum uncertainty is in agriculture. This is the only profession which faces more minuses and less pluses due to rains, hailstorms, draught, floods, diseases related to crops and ups and downs in prices. Due to heavy losses, farmers are committing suicides. In fact, no person should commit suicide. Our Constitution also does not allow it. Suicide is not at all a solution to the problem. One should struggle to overcome the problem by fighting with the circumstances. The other alternative is to introduce compulsory crop insurance so that in the event of a natural calamity, the farmer is compensated so that he can look after his family till the harvesting of the next crop.
