JAMMU: Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre, celebrated World Habitat Day 2016 here on Monday. On the occasion, a seminar on topic ‘Housing at the Centre’ was organised in which engineers and other dignitaries from different departments and organizations participated. Vinod Malhotra, FIE, Former Development Commissioner, Town Planning Organization, Jammu was the Chief Guest and H.C Jerath FIE Past Chairman Jammu Local Centre presided over the function.
On this occasion seven papers were presented on the theme topic by S.C Thukral, FIE; P.K Nanda, MIE; Sewa Ram, MIE; Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE; T.K. Sharma, AMIE; Akash Dusgotra, AMIE and Rajesh Kumar Angural.
During the course of seminar all the speakers stressed in their papers for making schemes which can provide maximum number of houses for accommodating the larger part of population. India being under develop country having population of 1.25 billion crores needs to have such types of housing schemes which can prove beneficial for the people.
It was also emphasized by one of the speakers namely P.K Nanda, MIE that in the case where sufficient land is not available for framing housing colonies the mode of development be shifted from horizontal development to the vertical development.
It was also proposed that schemes like ‘Own Your House’ for the employees working in J and K Government should be framed so that they can have their own houses. It was also highlighted that in addition to taking up new housing schemes the existing housing structures be given due consideration as regard to their maintenance.
