Installation of intelligent traffic management system reviewed

JAMMU: Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) reviewed the functioning and up-gradation of existing and installation of intelligent traffic management system.
In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner, Mandeep Kaur here on Friday.
Vipin Kumar Choudhary, IGP, Traffic, Joint Commissioner (Administration), R.S Jamwal Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Executive Engineer (Electric), JMC and Jatinder Koushiq, CEO, ONNYX, Traffic System, New Delhi were also present in the meeting.
The meeting was informed that presently traffic signals have been installed at 30 intersections in Jammu. It was discussed that the present system needs to be upgraded to accommodate traffic lights for pedestrian also. It was also decided that the traffic system should control traffic of each arm of the intersection independently. The meeting resolved that the traffic signal system should operate in Blinker mode, Auto mode and Manual mode besides a central command and control room shall be set up from where the timing and phase of traffic signals would be changed depending on the requirement. The central room will be able to monitor the functioning of traffic lights in real time using advance technology.
The meeting also resolved that cantilever poles will be used to encourage lane driving and traffic signals will be improved to cater to the needs of pedestrians.
It was also decided that Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) will be installed in one location on trial basis. People violating the traffic signals would be issued Challans. (ANPR) Automatic Number Plate Recognition System will be used to record the number plates of defaulter’s vehicles.
