BARI BRAHMANA: Former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh on Friday joined protest demonstration of the over 150 labourers against the management of Sudhir Gen Sets at the industrial area.
Leading the demonstration, Manjit Singh said that the protesters have been protesting against the management of the industrial unit because their salaries were not given.
“These labourers have been protesting since last month in support of their demands. The management has not given heed citing various reasons but the Labour Departments of the government has also turned blind eyes towards the exploitation of the workers in industrial areas of Bari Brahmana, Samba, and Kathua,” said Manjit Singh.
Expressing serious concern over the exploitation of the labour class, former minister said that after demonetisation and implementation of Goods and Service Tax, the industrial sector has badly affected leading to the ouster of employees.
Instead of generating employment opportunities, he said, the industrial sectors have failed to provide jobs to the unemployed local youth and even present Industries Minister Chander Prakash Ganga is also not concerned over the growing unemployment.
Angered over the negligence of Industries Minister, he said, present Industries Minister and earlier Industries Ministers had compromised the interest of local unemployed youths because non-locals were given higher posts like managers to the non-locals and locals were kept on the fourth class posts like chowkidars and labourers.
He said that government must ensure more employment opportunities to the locals in comparison to the non-locals but this is not happening on ground.
Instead of providing them permanent jobs, he alleged that workers or labourers are engaged in the industrial sector though the contractors and such workers have not rights as worker in any of the place they are working in as employee.
He warned the government to shun the attitude of negligence and adopt a people friendly policy towards the weaker section in industries sector of Jammu division.
