Industrial units face huge financial losses due to frequent power cuts: BBIA

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Despite tall claims by Power Development Department (PDD) for providing un-interrupted 24 hours power supply to the industrial sector, Bari Brahmana Industries Association lambasted the PDD and said that the industrial units is suffering badly due to frequent trippings in the power supply resulting in production losses and wastage of material in the process.
“The units engaged in the manufacturing of steel, plastics, chemicals and other products are the worst sufferers as it will take long time to restart the production after removing the waste materials from the equipments,” BBIA President Lalit Mahajan told reporters here on Sunday.
Mahajan said that in spite of repeated reminders to the concerned Chief Engineers, no action has been taken by the department to restore the uninterrupted power supply to the industrial sector, as announced by the Deputy Chief Minister, which shows the callous attitude of the department towards the industrial sector.
“Whenever we contacted the concerned officials to know the reasons for the frequent breakdowns in the power supply, the lame excuses always given by the department that due to breakdown in the power supply from Hira Nagar, overheating of the transformers, old and obsolete equipments at grid stations/ receiving station due to which trappings always occurred,” he said.
“Bari Brahmana Industrial Complex is contributing Rs 140 crores annually for the power supply to the industrial units and if the department spends one per cent of the revenue for the repair and maintenance of the stations, the same can be easily recovered by supplying the power on regular basis without any unscheduled tripping,” Mahajan emphasized.
Mahajan mentioned that as per the Government Order No. 152-PDD of 2011 dated 28th April 2011, it is mandatory to hold the monthly meeting for the sanction of power connections by the designated committee under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner, Power but it’s unfortunate that no one is adhering the procedure. The association members requested the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga to kindly intervene into the matter to resolve the issues on priority basis for speedy industrial growth in the State.
