India’s junior shooting coaching scene set for overhaul

New Delhi: Aiming to overhaul the set-up in the junior coaching shooting scene, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has recommended names of a few prospective coaches to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
According to NRAI president Raninder Singh, the federation has forwarded the names of a few candidates to SAI.
“We have already requested the SAI and they have been looking into it. That was part of our scheme of things in 2014,” Raninder said.
Currently, multiple Asian Games medallist Jaspal Rana is holding the position of chief pistol coach, while Deepali Deshpande is the chief rifle coach for juniors.
Now, NRAI is looking to bolster the foreign coaches’ list by having them on board for the near future.
The heightened activity in the junior shooting scene could have been prompted by the Indian youngsters’ impressive showings in competitive international tournaments over the last few years.
According to Raninder, the young Indian shooters deserve special attention with so many top tournaments lined up in the coming years.
