JAMMU: Indian Railways and Department of Posts has started a new Express Cargo Service in a close coordinated environment to facilitate transmission of consignments.
Col Vinod Kumar, PMG Jammu intimated that the booked parcels will be put inside the boxes which are specially designed by Indian Railways which shall be locked and sealed by the Department of Posts in the presence of Indian Railways representative. Similarly, the boxes shall be opened at the destination station in the presence of Railway staff and delivery shall be done in Parcel Management System.
In this connection Col Vinod Kumar PMG Jammu held a meeting with Uchit Singhal, Station Director and other officers of the both departments today in Jammu.
Col Vinod Kumar intimated that Express Cargo Services is a joint parcel product of Indian Railway and India Posts.
In the meeting many aspects of the Express Cargo Services were discussed in a detailed manner. He intimated this joint parcel product has been developed to target B2C and B2B market with focus on e-Commerce and MSME market with affordable prices as per the market trends of weight category between 35 kg and 100 kgs.
India Posts shall provide first and last mile services and Indian Railway will provide the middle mile services i.e. Pick up from the premises of the customers, booking and delivery by Department of Posts and transmission between identified Railway stations by Indian Railways.
It was also intimated that the articles / goods booked under Express Cargo Services will be affixed with a sticker of “Express Cargo Services” and M/s Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Limited has been on boarded to provide third party insurance of the parcels under Express Cargo Services. The customer will have the option to opt for first mile and second mile services, first mile service or last mile service as per his / her requirement on the cheapest rates. Stage to stage tracking facility will be available and rigorous monitoring shall be done.
Col Vinod Kumar said that as per the demand of traders and business potential service can be provided on various identified router of Indian Railways network. Due to the availability of such direct express cargo service it will open a new chapter for expansion of business by spreading their reach in parts of the country.
