Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage celebrates World Heritage Day

JAMMU: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Jammu Chapter commemorated World Heritage Week (19-25 November). As part of celebrations with a Heritage Awareness programme at Government Middle School and Government Higher Secondary School Jakh. The programme aimed at creating an awareness among the students about the art, culture and heritage of Jammu region and sensitising them regarding preservation of our rich cultural heritage.
Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, a well know Sanskrit scholar and social worker was the Chief Guest while Hemant Sharma, Director Command Area Development, S.M Sahni, Convenor, INTACH Jammu chapter and former Director Tourism Jammu, Dr Anita Billowria, Director, Centre for the study of Jammu and Ladakh regions, Jamwal, former General Manager, ITDC, Dr Kavita Suri, Associate Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, Dr Sonia Jasrotia, Assistant Professor, Department of Buddhist studies, University of Jammu, Chief Education Officer, Samba Mangal Dev, Principals of both the schools, Abhimanyu Billowria personality development trainer and few students of Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu were also present.
Delivering the lecture on the heritage and culture of Jammu region, Prof Ved Ghai said that we need to aware about our tangible and intangible heritage and efforts should be made to preserve our heritage.
“We are proud of our heritage which is unique. Jammu’s name has figured in our ancient books also and we need to continue with our rich culture and traditions,” said Prof Ghai exhorting the students to be the preserver of our culture and heritage.
Prof Ghai also exhorted the students to develop scientific attitude and contribute a lot towards the development of the country.
Dr Anita Billowria also addressed the students and delivered a lecture on importance of our heritage.
Earlier, giving a background of the event, S.M Sahni said that INTACH is trying to spread an awareness among the students and youth and for this, they will be organizing a series of activities in entire Jammu region in the next one week. He said INTACH would be organizing a series of activities this week including visit of students to Dogra Art Museum, visit of students and member of INTACH to Surinsar, visit to Samba and Manwal etc.
