THIMPHU: In today’s SAFF Championship U17 final match, played at Chamglimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, the Indian National Football Team U17 defeated Bangladesh 2-0 to win the trophy for the second consecutive year.
Muhammad Arbash and Muhammad Kaif scored both goals in the second half. After overcoming Nepal in the semifinal and Bangladesh and Maldives in the group stage, the Indian team was remained undefeated in the competition.
For the past two months, the Indian Team trained in Srinagar for the SAFF Championship, with all facilities provided by the J&K Government. The National Team’s continued success has been facilitated by the J&K Sports Council’s sports facilities, which also include boarding and lodging. With the intention of acclimating players to Bhutan’s high altitude and climate, the AIFF selected Srinagar as the location for the coaching camp.
All of the team’s members and officials, especially Ishfaq Ahmad (Head Coach), Majid Yousuf (Team Manager) and player Abdul Salah, were congratulated by Secretary YSS Sarmad Hafeez and Secretary JKSC Nuzhat Gul for making J&K proud.
The Indian team is heading back to Srinagar where they will be getting ready for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, which are scheduled to take place in Thailand starting on October 18.
