NEW DELHI: India and Oman on Wednesday signed a pact that will provide for substantial engagement in pursuing and eliminating transnational crimes and terrorism in their different forms.
The agreement was signed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Oman Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidy.
The ‘Agreement on Legal and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters’ also contains provisions for transfer of documents, records and objects, search and seizure, availability of persons to give evidence and assist in investigation.
The pact will be a deterrent to those who directly or indirectly obtain benefit from proceeds of crime, a Home Ministry official said.
The Home Minister informed the visiting delegation that India has experienced natural disasters like rain, flood and cyclones and was able to minimise the loss of human lives due to better forecasting methodology and adept handling of the ground situation.
Singh offered Indian expertise and experience in this field through technical and best management practices to Oman.
The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman and the senior officers of the Ministries of Home and External Affairs were present during the signing ceremony. (PTI)
