Rahul powers JU to final, meets PU Patiala today

JAMMU: Star striker, Rahul, through his brilliant play, on Tuesday guided hosts University of Jammu (JU) to men’s final of the ongoing All India Inter-Zonal Handball Championship on the campus grounds, here.
Now, JU shall take on formidable Punjabi University (PU) Patiala in the title clash on Wednesday at the same venue. The finals shall be followed by the valedictory function on Wednesday.
Earlier, in the well contested semifinals, played on Tuesday afternoon, JU trounced fighting RTMNU Nagpur 32-26 with half-time score tied at 15-15. Rahul remained the highest scorer with 12 goals while skipper, Sahil Bharat and Jinder contributed six and five goals respectively.
A junior national and North Zone medalist, young Rahul has already represented J and K at the national level for a record seven times. A first-year student of Government MAM College, Rahul has been gifted with exceptional energy level and quickness in moves at the crucial moments.
In other semifinals, Panjabi University Patiala defeated tough opponent Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh 28-24.
Quarterfinals: University of Jammu beat LNIPE, Gwalior 32-26; RTMNU Nagpur defeated VBSPU Jaunpur 47–42; PU Chandigarh trounced Solapur University, Solapur 37–30; Punjabi University Patiala blanked Kurukshetra University 25-10.
Meanwhile, in women’s section, Panjabi University, Patiala has been pitted against PU Chandigarh in the title clash on Wednesday.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played on Tuesday, Punjabi University Patiala trounced Delhi University 28-07 in a one-sided contest while PU Chandigarh defeated Lovely Professional University (LPU) Phagwara 25-22.
Quarterfinals: Punjabi University, Patiala beat LNIPE, Gwalior 37–08; Delhi University defeated Kannur University 28–20; Panjab University, Chandigarh blanked University of Calicut 26–11; LPU Phagwara beat Pt. RSS University, Raipur 34–22.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel including Dev Raj, Sanjeev Singh, Kapil Sagotra, Govind Ram, Gourav Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Karun Magotra, Kartar Dogra, Lakhwhinder Singh, Kaushal Dikshit, Priya Charak, Ashish, Prabhleen Kour, Pooja Sharma, Rahul Bakshi, Jeevenjot and Reva Rajput.
