India emerging as world-class cost-effective healthcare destination: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh delivered a compelling address at the “Global MedTech Summit 2024,” organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Hotel Le Meridian. Dr. Singh underscored India’s rise as a cost-effective global healthcare destination and a leader in the pharmaceutical industry.
Highlighting recent healthcare transformations, Dr. Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a healthier India, focusing on eliminating communicable diseases and preventing non-communicable ones.
He cited India’s record-breaking COVID-19 vaccination drive as a testament to the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare for all.
He also addressed the emerging challenge of metabolic disorders, emphasizing the need to tackle new diseases associated with increasing life spans.
Dr. Singh, who holds multiple ministerial portfolios, emphasized preventive healthcare as a national priority to achieve the vision of India @2047.
He pointed out the rise of age-related diseases in younger populations, such as Type 2 Diabetes and early heart attacks, which not only pose health risks but also impact national productivity.
Advocating for “PPP + PPP” collaborations, Dr. Singh urged partnerships between India’s public and private sectors and their global counterparts. He cited successful examples from the space and biotechnology sectors, noting a surge in private investment and startups following the opening up of these fields.
Describing India as a top global bio-manufacturer, Dr. Singh highlighted the growth of the bio-manufacturing sector from $10 billion in 2014 to $130 billion in 2024. He also praised initiatives like BIRAC for advancing industry-research linkages.
Dr. Singh concluded by calling for enhanced Industry-Academia-Research collaboration to realize a healthy India by 2047, emphasizing technology’s role in improving healthcare accessibility and
efficiency.
