Dear Editor,
The former President Pranab Mukherjee said that the last day in office a letter he received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched his heart. In his emotional letter, Narendra Modi wrote to Pranabda, “You have been a father figure to me”, even that “…., our political journeys took shape in different political parties. Our ideologies, at times, have been different. Yet, such is the strength of your intellect and wisdom that we were able to work together with synergy,” It is clear that not only is Modi a man of rhetoric but even his script writer knows how to use heart-touching words. Whether its Modi’s emotional moment or his rhetoric, time alone will tell. One is unable to understand that if Pranabda was like a father figure, then why did Modi not request him to stay on to keep blessing him? Did Modi ever express his desire that he wanted Mukherjee to continue? The love and respect must not remain only in the letter. He must not forget the guidance of Pranabda that “tolerance”, “right to disagree” and unity in diversity are the strength of this country and must be strictly followed. Otherwise, the Aam Aadmi would be reminded of the adage that “a leopard never changes it’s spots”.
