JAMMU: The Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association urged upon the Vice-Chancellor, Prof R.D Sharma to implement Seventh Pay Commission.
In the meeting held here on Friday, the association appealed to the Vice-Chancellor Professor R.D Sharma to authorise implementation of much needed Seventh Pay Commission and the Supreme Court’s Interim Order dated 18th March, 2016 which reads as “The operation of the impugned order passed by the High Court shall remain stayed.” This order, however, shall not prevent the High Court from considering eligible candidates for promotion to the next higher post provided any vacancies for such consideration are available.
The meeting also reiterated association’s long pending demand for constitution of a Standing Committee for SC/ST and representation of SC/ST in university’s competent bodies like University Council, Syndicate, Academic Council, Selection Committee, etc. as per UGC instructions.
The meeting strongly hailed the action taken by the government in having reconstituted the J and K State Advisory Board for Welfare & Development of Scheduled Castes, saying that it was need of the hour.
Earlier, the Association members extended affectionate farewell to their colleague Satish Chander who retired as Assistant Registrar-II on attaining the age of superannuation after rendering more than 41 years of unblemished service in the University.

“I would like to thank all the Association members for their support, friendship and exemplars of what it is to serve faithfully and with humility. To tell the truth, working with them for a longtime has been a great pleasure for me”, said the retiree while speaking on the occasion.
