JAMMU: Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu on Tuesday organised a Classical music programme ‘Dhrupad- Ek Smridhh Gaayan Parampara’ at the college premises, here. The event was precisely focused on Indian classical music form of Dhrupad.
The teaching of Dhrupad is very closely tied to the ancient system of “Guru- Shishya Parampara”. The programme began with Ganesh Vandana in Teental performed by Kathak dance students, Raksha Godya and Ankita Yadav.
The composition was made by Incharge Dance Department, Dr Priya Dutta, who was accompanied by Purshotam Kumar on Pakhavaj and Rajkumar Behrupia on vocal and harmonium. Various paper readings with power point presentations by the students on the topics ‘Drupad Ka Udbhav Evam Vikas’ by Shiv Shant; ‘Comparison between Drupad and Khayal Gayan’ by Deepali Singa and Kul Mehak Singh; ‘Drupad Ki Char Baniya’ by Nisar Ahmed and Khush and a brief demonstration of Pakhavaj and Tabla by the faculty members, Parshotam Kumar and Vijay Kumar was an eye opener for the distinguished gathering.
Dr. Roshi Shaminotra along with the students of Vocal Department, Kul Mehak, Vikram, Shiv, Pankaj, Sunil, Ravi, Ramandeep and Mohit presented Drupad Gayan on Rag Bhopali.
Jhaptal on Tabla was prepared by Jagdish Raj and performed by Amit, Prabhat and Darbari Dr. Sujata Rajput.
Students from Violin Department, Khush, Nisar Ahmed, Chanderdhari, Ashish and Manoj presented Rag Bhimplasi in Madhya and Dhrut Laya in Teental. Tabla was accompaniment by Vijay Kumar and item prepared by Dr. Sumeet Madan.
Dean Academic Affairs University of Jammu, Prof. Desh Bhandhu was chief guest. Principal IMFA, Prof. Poonam Choudhary presented vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by faculty member of IMFA, Rajkumar Behrupia.
