JAMMU: A team of Food Safety Officers of Drugs and Food Control Organisation on Tuesday conducted surprise raids at Shalamar, Kanak Mandi, City Chowk, Bahu Plaza, Jewel and Raghunath Bazar areas of Jammu.
During inspection, a Pan House at Bahu Plaza, Jammu was found indulging in selling of cigarettes without specific health warning, pictorial depiction as mandated under section 7 of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
The inspection team seized 85 packets of cigarettes and the legal action as warranted under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 shall be initiated against the defaulters in due course of time.
The officials of the department said that such inspections are a regular exercise of the department but the market surveillance in the coming days will be further intensified to stop the sale of such tobacco products.
