IIIM celebrates CSIR Foundation Day

JAMMU: Foundation Day of CSIR IIIM, Jammu was celebrated during a function organised here at the auditorium of Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) on Monday.
A distinguished biologist Prof. Seyed E. Hasnain of Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Students from different colleges and schools in the city were taken on a guided visit to various departments of the institute. The scientists and technical staff have demonstrated their research activities to the visitors.
While welcoming Prof. Seyed E. Hasnain, Director, IIIM Jammu, Dr. Ram Vishwakarma described him as leading biologist of India who played a major role in the development and growth of Biological Sciences.
Dr. Ram said that Prof. Hasnain is one of the highly cited Indian scientists with more than 250 research papers and is very well recognised scientist and fellow of all major Science Academies of India (FNA, FASc and FNASc). “Professor Hasnain also received the Padma Shri (Civilian Award) from President of India”, he added.
Prof. Hasnain delivered the foundation day lecture entitled, ‘Mycobacterium Tuberculosis: A super intelligent bacterium that is smarter than us makes TB control a difficult task’.
The chief guest also distributed prizes for winner and runner-up cricket teams of foundation day cricket tournament.
An art exhibition of paintings by Jagpal Singh, K.K Gandhi, Vikas Dogra, Rauf Qayasi, M.A Mehboob, V Khajuria, Shafi Chaman and Rakesh Kumar made during Kashmir Lavender Festival at IIIM, Srinagar were also showcased.
Besides, K.K Gandhi made a live demonstration by making a painting depicting deodar landscape.
Head PME Er. Abdul Rahim presented the vote of thanks and Neelam Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme.
