IGP Jammu inaugurates three-day course on “Cyber Investigation and Mobile Forensics”

JAMMU: A three-day training programme on “Cyber Investigation and Mobile Forensics” commenced on Friday at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines (DPL), Jammu. The course was inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti in the presence of Staff Officer to IGP Jammu, Shamsheer Hussain and trainees drawn from all the districts of Jammu Zone.

While inaugurating the programme, the IGP underscored the growing importance of cyber investigation in the evolving landscape of crime. He highlighted the rapid rise in cyber-enabled offences and emphasized the necessity of equipping investigating officers with updated technical knowledge and legal expertise to effectively handle digital evidence and ensure successful prosecution.
During the course of the next three days, the programme will focus on critical aspects of cyber investigation, including handling and preservation of digital evidence, maintaining the chain of custody, adherence to proper legal and procedural safeguards. Special emphasis will be laid on the preparation of digital seizure memos and the correct method of conducting digital seizures to withstand judicial scrutiny.
Dedicated sessions will also cover the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023, particularly those relating to admissibility and evidentiary value of electronic records. Legal and procedural prospects concerning cybercrime investigations will be discussed in detail to enhance the competence of Investigating Officers.
Expert speakers including experienced officers in the field of cyber investigation and mobile forensics will deliver technical and practical sessions during the programme. The course is structured to include interactive discussions, case studies, and practical demonstrations to ensure effective knowledge transfer. It is expected to strengthen cyber policing capabilities and building institutional capacity to tackle emerging digital threats in a professional and legally sound manner.
