BHADARWAH: Continuous rains for the last three days have created a flood like situation in different parts of the Chenab Valley .The relentless rain has led to rise in water levels in rivers and streams and several have touched the danger mark. There were also reports of landslides, damage to houses and inundated roads leading to severe disruption in traffic.
In Shekahai village of Bhadarwah four houses got damaged according to information provided by Sarpanch Sartaj Ahmed . He said in the morning landslide hit the houses of Mohd Akber Batt son of Rustam Batt , Masoom Ali son of Mohd Hussain , Ajaz Ahmed son of Fata Mohd and Altaf Ahmed son of Abdul Ganai but there is no loss of life , he added .
However a house in Pranoo Doda got damaged due to continuous rainfall and the owner was identified as Atta Mohd Shah son of Mohd Ali Shah resident pf Shah Pura Pranoo . Heavy rains also caused widespread damages to crops in various parts of Doda District.
The continuous downpour resulted in flooding of lanes, bye-lanes and roads in some places. There are also reports that maximum roads connecting Bhadarwah , Doda , Bhalessa and other areas are closed and District Administration led by DDC Doda S.V Meena and SSP Doda M.S Chowhan is closely monitoring the situation .
“Due to the influence of Western Disturbances over J and K, there is going to be heavy rains in next 36 hours. As safety measures we have issued a warning to all people living near river banks to evacuate from such places,” a MeT official said. The official added there is going to be decrease in precipitation from 6th September. “There will be respite from rainfall from Saturday,” he said. The farmers had appealed to the authorities to compensate the loss caused due to the natural disaster.
