Hosts JKP in QFs of Police Hockey after 4 years

JAMMU: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) on Saturday sailed into the knockout stags of quarterfinals after a gap of four years in the 72nd All India Police Hockey Championship at K K Hakku Stadium, here.
During the day, J&K Police won their second league tie making it a 9-1 big win against Chattisgarh Police. With today’s emphatic victory, JKP emerged group-E topper. Now, JKP shall be playing against the topper of group-D, which will be decided tomorrow after the game between CISF and Gujarat.
Vishal Deep Singh remained top scorer with three goals to be named player of the match. Prabjot Singh contributed two goals while other goals came through Skinder Singh, Manpreet Singh and Gagandeep Singh.
In this match, Deputy CO of Ist Women Battalion, Shaheen Wahid was special guest, who interacted with the teams and presented the player of the match award.
Earlier, during the day, Puducherry Police defeated Telagana Police by 4-3. S Nanda Kumar and Karpaga Rastihiran one goal each while V Karthikayan scored two goals.
For his brilliant performance, A Nagarajan was named player of the match and honoured by Chief Guest, Reyaz Iqbal Tantray-Dy. CO, IRP-16th Bn.
West Bengal Police had easy encounter against Rajasthan Jharkhand Police beating latter 3-2. Praful Dungdung scored the first goal, followed by second goal by Santosh Rajbhar and third goal from Sukhen Barman.
Theodor Baa was obvious choice for the player of the match and was felicitated by Chief Guest, Rajni Sharma-SP, IRP-1st Bn. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) made it a 7-0 win against Kerala Police. Ignacius Toppo and Samsher scored two goals each while Saroj Ekka, Lovepreet Jainth and Rabindra Kujur netted one goal each. Lovepreet Jainth was declared Man of the Match and honoured by Chief Guest, Suram Singh-SSP, CO. JKAP-8th Bn.
In other scheduled matches, Border Security Force (BSF) blanked Tamil Nadu Police 5-1. Hatinder Singh scored two goals while Amit Saroha, Harminder Singh and Sharanjit Singh one goal each. Kanwarpal Singh was declared as Player of the Match and felicitated by Chief Guest, Kulbir Chand Handa-SSP, Dy.CO, IRP-18th Bn.
