Misappropriation in diet meant for patients
JAMMU: Unearthing embezzlement in the purchase of diet for patients in Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Monday booked the Accountant-cum-Cashier, for misappropriation of over Rs 8 lakh.
During a surprise check in December 2013, a team of SVO had seized records related to the purchases made during the past four to five years. During scrutiny of record, the investigators detected fraudulent double drawl of diet bills and misappropriation/embezzlement of Hospital Development Fund
Jammu SVO SSP Rupinder Chalotra said, FIR 26/14 has been registered against Inderpaul Singh, son of Ganga Singh, resident of Lane No. 2, Sector No. 13, Nanak Nagar, Jammu, Senior Assistant working as Cashier/Accountant in Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu under section 5(1)(c)(d) read with Section 5(2) of Jammu & Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006-Bk and Section 409 RPC.
The SVO investigators have established that the accused official embezzled/misappropriated an amount of Rs. 5,06,955 and Rs. 3,27,552 from the Hospital Development Fund during the period November /2011 to March /2013 and April /2008 to October /2009 respectively.
Further investigations are under process, said SSP Chalotra, adding that the involvement of other officials/officers cannot be ruled out.
Sources said that during the past five years, the hospital has made purchases worth crores of rupees, which include equipment which was even not required at all. The purchase had been made to give benefit to the medical equipment suppliers and to get personal gains.
“We will not spare whosoever is involved in the embezzlement of government funds;” said SSP Chalotra, adding that “purchases of medicines and other equipments are under scrutiny.
