JAMMU: Rendered ‘homeless’ for the last over three months due to ongoing renovation of the multipurpose indoor hall of the Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here the trainees of the medal winning discipline of gymnastics have finally taken refuge at the Table Tennis hall.
Earlier, conducted their coaching sessions at the lawns of a park in front of the Indoor Complex, visibly upset coaches have moved inside the indoor complex to adjust with those practicing table tennis.
“Initially, we were told by the higher ups in the State Sports Council to adjust for a period of two months till the aging flooring of the indoor hall is replaced with a new and modern surface. Now, three months have lapsed and the ongoing work is still half way,” expressing his concern, Gymnastics Coach, S.P Singh told.
Since this medal winning game, after rendered homeless, left with no other alternate place to practice, the number of trainees has drastically reduced.
“In the wake of no proper place to hold coaching sessions, the number of trainees has reduced to lowest ever with 80 per cent of youngsters prefer to stay back. As a matter of fact, the game requires physical exercises, including stretching by the seniors, which is not possible in the open, so we have moved inside the table tennis hall,” said Singh.
Not only gymnastics, the most popular game of badminton too has suffered a lot due to prolonged renovation work at the indoor hall. However, the shuttlers were lucky enough in motivating the J&K Police to practice at the indoor hall of District Police Lines, here.
