JAMMU: Bringing a big relief to patients of Jammu province, Cardiac surgery is now being carried out routinely at Government Super-Specialty Hospital (SSH) Jammu under Ayushman Bharat Sehat scheme for which patients don’t have to shell out anything from their pockets, as it is the benefit of the scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which covers almost every citizen of Jammu & Kashmir.
As per details, 40 years old man who had suffered poliomyelitis in his childhood and has weakness of left upper and lower limbs and had rheumatic heart disease with very heavily calcified heat valve with severely narrowed mitral valve causing severe breathlessness and irregular heart beat for years together. Besides he had also suffered stroke and had infarct in brain for which he was under medication. He had to get repeated hospital admissions for his ailments. He was prepared up for heart surgery in the Department of CTVS and Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia & Intensive Care Unit at Government SSH, Jammu and finally the surgery was done on August 1, 2022.
The surgical team comprised of Dr Shyam Singh (Surgeon) with Dr I A Mir (Co-Surgeon), assisted by Dr Azhar and Dr Mohit Kumar (Registrars ), Dr Aisha, Dr Irfan, Dr Maryam (PGs) with other colleagues Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra, Dr Javed and Dr Rouf who also helped in the procedure. Surgery posed great challenge because of his associated comorbidities and the heavy load of calcium on native Heart Valve which extended onto the walls of adjoining heart Chamber walls, said Chief Surgeon Dr Shyam Singh. Cardiac Anaesthesia was conducted by Professor and Head Dr Puja Vimesh, Dr Avinash Kour, Preeti Sharma (Registrars) assisted by Senior Cardiac Anesthesia technologist Shiv Karan Singh, Vikas Sharma, Arif, Saleem, Karan Singh and Sonal.
Senior Perfusionists Chananjit Singh and Roshan Lal maintained the cardiopulmonary pump during operation. The operation theatre scrub sisters included Vaishali, Renu, Sapna, Angmo with technician Girdhari Singh and OT Incharge Indu Khurdi. The intraoperative and peri-operative care in Intensive Care Unit SSH was managed by team of Cardiac Anesthesia residents Dr Sakshi, Dr Nitika, Dr Kanika, Dr Neha with active and alert ICU sisters Ekta Sudan, Urmila, Rajinder Kour, Pooja Sharma, Vandana , Shivalika, Shivani, Neetu, Sayeeda, Sonakshi and incharge ICU Tajinder Kour. Principal Medical College Jammu Professor Dr Shashi Sudhan has applauded the efforts of the team and stressed that people should utilise facilities of Open Heart Surgeries at their doorsteps free of cost to patients under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
