Police solves Gandhi Nagar burglary

JAMMU: Police on Friday busted a cross-border drug-smuggling gang after apprehending five people and recovering 7 kg heroin worth Rs 35 crore valued at international market.
Briefing media persons here on Friday, IGP Jammu, Dr S.D Singh Jamwal said that Akhnoor Police arrested two persons on January 4, during a Naka at Old Steel Bridge, Akhnoor, by intercepting one Maruti car bearing registration No JK21/0789 coming from Akhnoor towards Jammu.
During checking, police recovered two packets of heroin stamped with Pak -Afghan Nanghar 8888 in Urdu one each from the possession of duo.
“They had hidden the heroin below their jackets worn by them,” IG said.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Mohammad Rafiq alias Rafiq, son of Mohammad Hanif, resident of Badori Raya and Som Nath alias Soma, son of Bhagat Ram, resident of Fatehpur Brahamna, R S Pura. In this regard, FIR No 5/2018 under Sections 8,21,22 and 29 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Akhnoor.
During sustained interrogation, the two accused revealed the nexus of cross border gang of narcotic smugglers. On their disclosure, three more persons were arrested. They were identified as Uabar Singh alias Sunny, son of Hem Singh, resident of Ward No 4 Khour; Jankar Singh alias Gosha, son of Jagtar Singh, resident of Phariwala Khour and Raju Singh alias Raju, son of Thoru Ram, resident of Dhar Khour.
“Five more packets of heroin weighing one Kg each were recovered from the possession of trio making in total 7 Kg heroin, which is valued Rs 35 crore approximately in the international market,” IG said.
The arrest and recovery was made by SDPO Akhnoor, Munish Anand, DySP (Ops) Davinder Singh; SHO Khour Jeet Singh and In-charge Police Post Pallanwala under the supervision of SP Rural Shiv Deep Singh.
Speaking on the attack-cum-cash snatching case of Gandhi Nagar, the IGP informed that police has arrested two accused persons and Rs 38,000 cash was recovered from their possession. However hunt is on to nab other associates imploded in it, he said.
A team of Police Station Gandhi Nagar under the supervision of SDPO City South, Rafiq Manhas and SP City South, Sandeep Choudhary was constituted for arresting the culprits.
The team rounded up some suspects and put them to sustained questioning during which accused namely Kuldeep Raj alias Nikka, son of Ram Rakha, resident of Meiowal, R.S Pura Jammu confessed his involvement in the commission of crime and disclosed the names of other three associates namely Gurpreet Singh alias Kali, son of Amarjeet Singh, resident of Kotli Shah Doula, R.S Pura Jammu; Rajat Kumar, son of Krishan Lal and Rohit Kumar son of Karam Chand both residents of Kotli Shah Doula R.S Pura.
Accused Gurpreet Singh alias Kali was also arrested and weapon of offence i.e, an iron rod and snatched cash amounting to Rs 38,000 was recovered. Efforts are on to nab the two absconding accused persons, the IGP said.
The IGP maintained that Gandhi Nagar Police also arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 102 grams of heroin from their possession, during Nakas laid at Shamshan Ghat Pulli, Shastri Nagar and Vikram Chowk respectively.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Jaffer Iqbal, (Dismissed Selection Grade Constable), son of Hakim Din, resident of Channi Rama, Jammu; Balbir Singh alias Sanchu, son of Darshan Singh, resident of H.No. 314 Sector No. 1 Extension Trikuta Nagar Jammu; Taqdeer Singh, son of late Paramjeet Singh, resident of H.No 70/6 Nanak Nagar and Tariq Hussain alias Rishi, son of late Nek Mohammad, resident of Trikuta Nagar Extension.
Accordingly, case FIR No 02/2018 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 NDPS Act and case FIR No 03/2018 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 NDPS Act respectively were registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar. All the four drug peddlers were formally arrested and vehicles used in the commission of crime as well as consignment of narcotics have been seized accordingly.
The arrest and recovery has been made by Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia, SHO Gandhi Nagar assisted by SI Jaipaul Singh, Incharge Police Post Nehru Market, SI Sandeep Chauhan under the supervision of SDPO City South Rafiq Manhas, SP City South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta.
Apart from this, Jamwal informed that more than 34 FIRs of NDPS have been registered in district Jammu since November 26, 2017.
In the aforesaid 34 FIRs, about 8.2 Kg Charas was recovered in three cases; 867 Grams of heroin in 17 cases; 98.7 Kg poppy straw in eight cases; 4,470 intoxicating capsules in two cases; 30 bottles of Corex in one case and 31 Kg of Ganja in three cases.
The IGP maintained that under Operation Meghdoot, five cases of burglary and theft have been worked out. In the aforesaid five cases which were registered at Police Station Trikuta Nagar, police recovered iron rods (Saria) amounting to Rs 6,52,000; cable wires amounting Rs 3,50, 000 and 52 mobile phones valuing Rs 7,06,913. Besides this, under Operation Chetak, police also recovered two stolen motorcycles valuing Rs 80,000, the IGP said. The recovery was made by SHO Trikuta Nagar, Parvez Sajjad.
